LOVE STORY (VERSI ENGLISH)

Sassy Girl Chun Hyang (SGCH) / Delightful Girl Choon Hyang is one of the most favourite KDramas in the era of Korean Wave that came through Asia and America recently. First aired by KBS in South Korea in the early 2005, SGCH became the highest rated dramas in South Korea during that current periode.

SGCH is a modern adaptation from classic true story of a girl named Chun Hyang who lived in the Joseon period. At that time, women didn't have rights to state their personal choice. But Chun Hyang was brave to reject the proposal from the current Governor, Byun Hak Doo, to be his wife and chose to go to jail for the man she love, Lee Mong Ryong, who had been doing final examination in the capital city of Korea. Then, Lee Mong Ryong came to save Chun Hyang and made jailed Byun Hak Doo.

The modern adaptation of Chun Hyang focused on this love story. Chun Hyang (played by Han Chae Young) was depicted as a smart, kind, hard worker, talented in designing accessories and high spirited high school girl. Born from a poor family and a mother who was a night club singer, Chun Hyang fought hard to keep on the top rank at school while doing some part time jobs to fulfil the household needs and to save for tuition fees.

While Lee Mong Ryong (Jae Hee) came to Namwon as a new student from Seoul who liked to make troubles. By a little accident in the town park, Chun Hyang and Mong Ryong met for the first time. This continued at school. When visiting Chung Hyang who got sick because of his bad done, Mong Ryong drank a local beer but thought it was just fruit juice. Then he slept at the side of the sick Chun Hyang until the next morning.

Not only Chung Hyang's mother got angry when she knew that, but also Mong Ryong's parents felt so embarrassed. They asked both to get married and keep going to school. On the other side, Mong Ryong still loved his old neighbour and schoolmate, Chae Rin. When he stated his feeling and got refused by Chae Rin, both decided to get married. Chae Rin started to miss Mong Ryong and asked him to come back to her.

Otherwise, Chung Hyang got shympatize from a handsome, rich, but cold hearted director of an entertainment company named Byun Hak Doo. When The shympatize was coming to be such an obsession, Director Byun tried a lot of ways to separate Chun Hyang and Mong Ryong that step by step began to love each other.

So many disturbances from Chae Rin and Director Byun just made them closer and they decided to hold a wedding party. Director Byun couldn't accept this situation and designed a trap for Mong Ryong in order to send him in prison. He got Chun Hyang's promise to leave Mong Ryong, to be his fiance and to join him to Japan as the requirements to free Mong Ryong. Chun Hyang divorced Mong Ryong and went into the plane to Japan with Director Byun. But what happened, she ran away from him and started her new life, running an accessories business and then being a boss of a big company in Busan.

Time went by, Mong Ryong was an attorney now and still thought that Chun Hyang was in Japan. Director Byun also kept looking Chun Hyang and finally found her while she came to her best friends' high school wedding party, Dan Hee and Ji Yuk, in secret.

Director Byun asked Chun Hyang to come back to him but got refused and Chun Hyang threatened to run away again outside Korea. Mong Ryong found Chun Hyang then and found memorable things to prove that she truly still loved him very much. He also began investigating the case in his past. Finally, in a press conference, Director Byun confessed what he'd done to Mong Ryong and let Chun Hyang and Mong Ryong being together again.

As a comedy romantic genre, SGCH successed to unify a comedy plot drama with some touch hearted scenes, supported by nice soundtracks. The parody of several famous movies and series, also little legend version scenes in the end of each episode, coloured this drama.
